This is an interesting article to me since I live in an area with a large Asian population. I see the superhuman like achievement of many Asian children/teens first hand and have wondered, how is this possible and how will my kids ever keep pace? I've mostly let go of the latter and think everyone eventually finds a way. Med school or a Harvard MBA is not what I want in life for my kids, unless THEY want it.
I think the article sheds some light on the how and the why of Asian achievement. Though I certainly do not agree with some of the parenting described in this article (name calling, shaming), I do think our Western approach to parenting could stand to borrow some ideas around instilling a stronger work ethic, tenacity and assuming strength in a child rather than weakness (we are a society of enablers).
